Do you have a dream, but have never tried to make it come true? Perhaps others are holding you back. They tell you it’s impossible, that you’re not being realistic. Or are you the stumbling block? Is your mind cluttered with negative thoughts about possible problems you could face that you won’t take the first step? That’s a shame because there are no limits to what you can achieve. The only limits are the ones that you set yourself. Donovan Bailey, Canadian Olympic gold medal sprinter said: “Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams.” Fulfilling your dream IS within your grasp; to achieve it, you need optimism, determination and focus.
“When you argue for your limitations, all you get are your limitations.” – Dr. Wayne Dyer
The first step is to realise what you need is already within you find out and work out how to achieve it. Don’t let negative thoughts limit you. Remind yourself that you are here because of choices and decisions you made, now you need to make more to get to where you want to be in the future. So some of those past decisions weren’t so great and you messed up, but I bet you also accomplished some things you set out to accomplish. What we think controls what we do, so take strength from your past mistakes and successes and banish negative thoughts. If you use a computer, you probably press the delete button from time to time. Think of your mind as a computer and when a negative thought pops into it, create a mental picture of yourself pressing the delete button. Zap! It’s gone. Doesn’t that feel good? Always remember, if you want your life to get better you must believe that you can make it better and have optimism.
American swimmer and most decorated Olympian ever Michael Phelps said: “You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.”
Wishing for something to come true won’t make it happen. You must work hard to achieve the life you want. If you think you can do something, you will do it, but if you think you can’t you won’t. Recognise what is holding you back, decide what you need to do about it and push ahead. However, stop from time to time and re-energise to keep a clear perspective. As you progress there will be setbacks, but don’t think of them as problems, instead consider them challenges to be overcome. No mountains were climbed or vast rivers crossed without determination and courage. Those intrepid explorers embraced the difficulties they encountered. You can do the same by seeing obstacles as learning tools to make you stronger. Even when negative thoughts creep in and obstacles arise, stay determined to pursue your dream. Always remember that success will be sweeter when you have worked hard for it.
According to Mary Kay Ash, American founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics, many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. “You can go as far as your mind lets you,” she said. “What you believe, remember, you can achieve.”
The difference between success and failure can be as simple as having a focused state of mind. How many times have you not done something you planned to do because life got in the way? It happens. We live in a very busy world with lots of distractions that can easily divert our attention. But if you want to achieve what is really important to you, keep your eye on the ball. Remain fully committed to your plan of action until the very end. Go for it and don’t let anything stop you. Have you heard the term “synchronicity”? That’s when things come together in a way we can’t explain to help us get where we want to be. It could be a chance meeting with someone who tells you something that is helpful or you stumble across a like-minded group that shares your passion. Always remember “synchronicity” will only happen by remaining focused.
